Emily Maguire at the Square and Compass
Cres, Loko and I went to stay in Worth Matravers this summer with the rest of the family for the birthdays of Mum and Cres. While we were having a few pints of zoider and a couple of single malts in the Square and Compass (strong contender for best pub in Britain), this lass was playing:
The old boy tells me her career's starting to take off now. Good on her, she did the whole lady singer-songwriter miles better than that insipid bumchinned goober Katie Melua, if you're into that sort of thing.
But anyway, go and have a drink in the Square and Compass. Preferably after a ten mile stroll along the Purbeck coast. Sit down at one of the stone tables in the beer garden with a piece of the cheese and veg pie and a pint of the local cider. Trust me, it's blissful.

What’s your next book about?
It’s called Robot Love and it’s for kids. A girl builds a multi-gendered robot, which then kills her parents because it sees them mistreat her, so they both go on the run. I’m fascinated by artificial intelligence and where it will lead. These robots couldn’t build anything as bad as us – so why would they keep us?
WTF?
Also, I'm glad someone's finally covering the woefully-neglected theme of artificial beings rising up against humans ...

LaPaglia for the role of Bush, please
There's some speculation on one of the Grauniad's film blog pages about who should play George W Bush in an upcoming drama by the writer of The Queen and The Deal. There's only one choice as far as I'm concerned: Anthony LaPaglia.

How queer!
I wonder why, when I went to Argos and searched for "spirit measure" (without the quotes), I got this page claiming I'd searched for "Orange Motorola V3"?
Works for "measure spirit", too ...
