RIAA sues radio stations

I can't see what the labels stand to gain from this. Why give radio stations a significant disincentive to promote the music you're selling?

US Right Wing: "Sun revolves around the Earth"

No, really. Seriously! That's what they're saying:

If you ask me, that settles the question right there. I support the Bible, and I don’t want my children learning about Heliocentrism in school. I think this doctrine encourages atheism, Darwinism, and anti-Americanism. I don’t want my tax dollars going to finance this kind of false science. It’s complete rot, and I hope that those of us who come to realize this can ultimately prevail against its propogation amongst OUR children with the money from OUR salaries.

I also love the assertion that biblical scripture is "evidence" that is as strong as empirical observation. Beautiful. I just can't wait until they get going on pushing Flat Earth theory. On this evidence it can't be long now!

Like I said here, t's a race between satire and reality, and satire is losing.

UPDATE: I notice in their comments that apparently the website they cite in support of their fixed-earth theory is also a Holocaust denial site (apparently NASA is part of a Jewish conspiracy). Which leads to this hilarious line:

But if you want an apology from us, fine: we apologize that sometimes people who are correct about one thing are incorrect about another. The Holocaust denials on the Fixed Earth website are insane; nevertheless, the fact remains that the Earth does not move.

(emphasis mine).

Putting the "n" in "Waking Life"

I'm just watching Richard Linklater's rotoscoped animation Waking Life on channel 4. I came across it accidentally after sitting through Jason X for the same reason I was eating a large cheesy chips with donner meat and chilli sauce: I appear to love shite.

Anyway, I looked it up on Amazon for some reviews, and the second one on this page made my evening. So far, the film seems to be an attempt to capture what it'd be like to take acid for the first time in a room full of sixth-form amateur philosophers. There's some right bong-addled ning nang nongery in there.

The medicinal powers of cider

I'd forgotten I'd got tickets for Groove Armada at Leeds Uni SU tonight and as a result I wasn't in the mood when I turned up. Apple-based booze has turned me around however!

That is the secret behind the mighty chart-spanning powers of the wurzels, I swear down.

Shite, I think they just attempted Brown Noise in that last song! Best get back to the boogie

Robots in the shops

Been a while since we had a NSSA. Well, here's a shorter John Anderson:

The new Transofrmers movie will have extensive merchandising.

*slow clap*

Bravo John, well done.

Monkeying with meow

If you can read this then I've finished hacking meow so that it handles multipart/alternative emails.

I also made a couple of stylistic changes such as adding 'use strict' and calling locally-installed modules via 'use lib' instead of faffing with @INC in a BEGIN block.

I can't seem to find an email address for Harsh Busa (great name!), the author of meow, so that I can send him the updated script. I've left a comment (awaiting moderation) on his blog but if he doesn't respond I suppose I'll make it available here.

No, not the Dar-leks!

Whoever wrote this bit of bumfluff has the brains of a Heat reader. Not only can they not spell "Dalek" but the they also write of Kylie Minogue:

The pop star, who flirted with acting in the 1990's with a number of film roles following her breakthrough role in the 80's on Neighbours.

So being a jobbing thesp since 1976 counts as "flirting with acting". Pillock.
