A query on pool etiquette

February 3, 2005

What is it with women in swimming pools? Why do they feel that they have to swim very slowly abreast of each other?

I mean, I can understand that some people use the swimming time as a time to chat, and I've got no problem with a couple of people swimming side by side, but enough to span the entire pool? All moving at a speed marginally slower than a whelk with a gammy pseudopod? For the love of all things decent, why?

I mean, there's no way that a woman on one side could possibly be heard by a woman on the other side so why these strings of ladies from one side of the pool to the other? It's not even as if all these women are part of the same group. They come into the pool in ones and twos and pairs come and pairs go, but they all seem to join this line of women sweeping up and down the pool ike the platforms in Jet Set Willy.

I dunno, maybe it's like that whole synchronised menstruation thing with female housemates, somehting that just happens and nobody knows why. (checks google) Oh, hang on, they do: it's pheromones. Well, you live and learn.

Yes, he's blocked. Need to install something a bit more pre-emptive when I get home though.
